The Brief
EqualXS Foundation — a 501(c)(3) working on equal access to education and opportunity — needed the public face of its newest idea: a global marketplace where educators list the classes they love, and learners find them. No time zones, no gatekeeping, no fees handled by the platform. The constraint that shaped everything: the audience reaches the site from anywhere in the world, often on a phone over a thin connection.
The Approach
We built a two-sided surface around frictionless discovery:
- Educator side — a simple profile and class listing flow. Sign up is free and quick; no approval gauntlet between an educator and their first student.
- Learner side — browsable educator profiles across academics, languages, arts, sports, and wellness, with direct contact.
- A trust-based model — the platform connects; terms and payments are agreed directly between the two people. The site makes that honesty legible instead of hiding it behind a checkout.
Every page had to earn its weight: fast on mobile-first, readable at any zoom, and calm enough to feel like a community rather than a marketplace.
The Build
The platform runs on Next.js with a hand-tuned Tailwind design system — one visual voice from the mission statement down to the FAQ. Imagery is deliberately light (small webp assets, mobile and desktop variants) so the experience holds up on a rural connection as easily as a fibre one. Discovery pages are statically renderable for instant first paint, and the whole site ships from a single deployable codebase the foundation's own team can maintain.
The Outcome
The marketplace is live and already global: 200+ educators from 15+ countries are teaching from it. For the foundation, the site is the public proof of its full-cycle promise — enable, empower, earn — with the door left wide open for the next 200.
